Icy Roads Kill 2, injure 10
Two men were killed and more than 10 people were injured in weekend traffic accidents on icy roads and bridges. The victims in the fatal accident were identified as Ben J Montgomery,24, 30520 Aldred, and Paul Vigil, 23, of 30896 Barnett. They were responsible for power-pole fire about 1:30 a,m, Sunday that resulted in an outage and gave some Puebloans a good scare. Dozens of callers telephoned The Pueblo Cheiftain Sunday inquiring about strange light sin the eastern sky. The phenomenon, enhanced by atmospheric conditions, apparently resulted from the power-pole fire at 13th Street and Erie. Ed Anderson, division manager for Southern Colorado Power, said that a malfunction in a 65,000-volt transmission line caused the blaze. “The top of the line burned off,” he said. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Anderson said, adding, “The problem probably was encouraged by the moisture that was falling.” Residents on Pueblos North side were without power for about five minutes, Anderson said. Repair crews made temporary repairs early Sunday morning
